Launch Complex 14 entrance. Note parking spots for Glenn, Carpenter, Schirra and Couper, Mercury astronauts.

 

LC 14 blockhouse, this is the launch complex where Mercury and Atlas rocket launch's took place, and where John Glenn was launched in Friendship 7 to become the first American to orbit the Earth. 10 foot thick concrete and steel walls provided protection to the launch crew inside. Periscopes were used to monitor the launch pad.
