Mars Rover Spirit Images

Photographed by Mars Rover Spirit and Opportunity on Mars

Snap shots from a distant planet. These photographs are from Mars, taken by the rovers Spirit and Opportunity. Spirit is in the Gusev crater investigating a site that may have had running water eons ago, Opportunity is located at Meridiani Planumon on the opposite side of the planet, a site that is supposed to have gray hematite, which usually forms in the presence of water. It is a unique period in human history that allows us to see these images from a crater 40 million miles away. I find these photographs especially good because there is a certain awkwardness to the composition and framing, like a child with his first camera. See link below to JPL's mission website for more info and recent photographs.
